Warsaw, the capital of Poland, has successfully finalized its massive street lighting replacement program. At the heart of this historic transformation are over 84,500 custom-designed SAVA luminaires, engineered and manufactured by LUG Light Factory.
What started under two years ago with the very first test luminaires installed on the facade of the Public Roads Authority (ZDM) has now turned into a continental blueprint for smart city development.
Source: ZDM WarszawaBefore this grand modernization began, Warsaw’s vast network of streets relied on outdated, energy-intensive sodium lamps, with a mere 7,500 LED points scattered across the city. Today, the landscape is entirely rewritten.
Out of approximately 126,000 luminaires maintained across the capital’s major arteries and neighborhood roads, over 113,000 are now state-of-the-art LEDs. The sheer speed and scale of deploying over 84,500 SAVA units in just a few short years mark a spectacular milestone in urban engineering.
The motivation behind this overhaul was clear: volatile energy prices and the urgent need to slash carbon footprints. The results achieved by ZDM Warsaw speak volumes:
A striking example of this efficiency is seen during the winter solstice—the longest night of the year, when streetlights run for 16 hours straight. In 2025, despite electricity rates soaring to more than double what they were in 2018 (approx. 1,100 PLN/MWh vs. 530 PLN/MWh), Warsaw’s total bill for that night was actually lower than it was seven years ago.
