Located in the subtropical Mesopotamia region of Argentina, the province of Misiones captivates with its diversity – from Jesuit church ruins and yerba mate plantations to the majestic Iguazú Falls. It is a place where nature, culture and history create a unique mosaic, with a large Polish culture and community that has been present for decades adding to this – for example, the town of Wanda was named after a legendary Polish princess.
The search for modern, energy-efficient lighting solutions led the provincial authorities to meet with a Polish LED lighting manufacturer. In a sense, it was a meeting that was bound to happen: a region with deep-rooted Polish history and culture joined efforts with a company originating in Poland. In these almost prophetic circumstances, a long-term cooperation was established between LUG and the Provincial Government, resulting in an 8-year modernisation project, during which over 20,000 luminaires have already been replaced, with another 30,000 planned – all for the comfort and safety of the inhabitants of this colourful region.
• The implementation of a contract covering an entire remote region – the regional capital of Posadas is over 11,000 kilometres away from Zielona Góra in a straight line – posed an organisational and logistical challenge
• The project required continuous, long-term cooperation to ensure the smooth running of the modernisation process over the years
• Logistical constraints and contract requirements meant narrowing down the portfolio to select universal and durable solutions that would be available on an ongoing basis
• In order to ensure efficient contract implementation, a LUG Argentina production plant was established in the provincial capital of Posadas, where the production of modern LED luminaires began, with a particular focus on roads and urban spaces
• The contract is being implemented gradually, in several stages, with the continuous support of LUG's headquarters in Poland, thanks to which the process is running smoothly and in a spirit of cooperation and trust
• Two flagship LUG luminaires, URBINO and AVENIDA, were selected for the contract. These products are characterised by high durability and energy efficiency, and their universal design allows them to blend harmoniously into urban spaces. These solutions are continuously supported by LUG, ensuring consistency at every stage of the modernisation process
Another important outcome is the establishment of the LUG Argentina production plant, which not only forms the heart of the contract and is a testament to the cooperation, but also represents a long-term benefit for the local job market. Moreover, thanks to this initiative, LUG has gained the ability to respond quickly to the needs of customers throughout South America, creating space for further cooperation in the region.
This project provides a modern model for international cooperation and demonstrates that light can not only illuminate spaces, but also connect people around the world.
The effects of the investment so far are visible both in engineering and social terms:
• Thanks to the use of energy-efficient LED luminaires, electricity consumption in public spaces in the province has been significantly reduced, possibly reaching up to 70% when contract is finished, and the optimal design and light distribution of the luminaires also benefits the environment and the night sky
• Modern, regulatory lighting of streets, junctions and pedestrian crossings improves visibility for all road users, helping to reduce the number of accidents and collisions
• The new lighting also has a positive impact on residents' comfort, enhancing the aesthetics of urban spaces and creating a sense of safety
