The latest global research in the lighting industry points to the need to rationalise the lighting of spaces with lighting systems that target the needs of people, their biorhythms, mood preferences, visual acuity, as well as energy efficiency and savings, and the luminaire's durability and safety of use.

LUG - as a leading manufacturer of professional luminaires and high-performance lighting systems - constantly undertakes research in the field of lighting rationalisation, combining the needs of customers with technological advances in the industry and at the same time ensuring a balance between light quality and energy efficiency. Recent research work has focused on Human Centric Lighting and has led to the development of innovative luminaires in the HCL trend, introducing new luminaire functionalities used in the lighting of office, medical, educational and residential buildings. The project had the character of a research project, where industrial research and experimental development works were carried out in order to develop a new group of LUG-branded products enabling the personalisation of lighting. The project involved the creation of prototypes of new luminaires and product innovations, which were implemented in LUG's own production. The project involved a team of researchers, designers, engineers, electronics engineers and laboratory technicians from LUG's Research and Development Division.

Tasks were carried out in two stages of research work: stage 1 - industrial research into the development of prototypes of luminaires and LED modules, and stage 2 - development work - verification, testing of prototypes of luminaires and electronics, validation of lighting systems - aimed at further technical refinement of the resulting products and laboratory research. The Project assumed the dissemination of research results at conferences and in the form of scientific and industry publications. The Project also resulted in increased employment in the company's Research and Development Division. As part of the project, 2 patent applications and 12 industrial design claims were developed.

The project 'Industrial research and experimental development work on the development of a safe lighting point (BPO)', which was carried out between 2019 and 2021, was co-financed by the National Centre for Research and Development from national funds, under the Operational Programme Intelligent Development 2014-2020 - Measure 4.1. Scientific research and development work.

The aim of the project was to develop a new safe pole integrated with an innovative luminaire, constituting a so-called safe lighting point (BPO). The project involved the design of a state-of-the-art luminaire with high technical and performance parameters, the method of its connection to the pole and a safe lighting pole with improved structural parameters. The solution was tested in so-called crash-tests on an accredited test track in Inowrocław according to the methodology provided for in the PN-EN 1317-1:2010 and PN-EN 1317-2:2010 PN-EN 12767:2008 standards.

The research work (industrial research and development) was carried out in 3 stages, starting with the construction of the research team, the development of new solutions and functionality of the lighting point, and ending with crash tests conducted in real conditions. The project involved close scientific cooperation with the Rzeszów University of Technology and the Road and Bridge Research Institute in Warsaw, dissemination of research results and 4 patent applications. All the anticipated results of the Project were successfully achieved.

The project was carried out as part of a consortium, where besides LUG Light Factory Sp. z o.o. there were: ELEKTROMONTAŻ RZESZÓW S.A. and a scientific unit - the Road and Bridge Research Institute from Warsaw.

The research work carried out between 2017 and 2019 in the project entitled 'Innovative set of specialised luminaires for cooperation with intelligent management system - from research to prototypes', was co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund, under Priority Axis 1 Economy and Innovation, Measure 1.1 Research and innovation of the Regional Operational Programme - Lubuskie 2020.

The main objective of the project was the development, prototyping and testing of innovative, energy-efficient luminaires capable of working with an intelligent lighting management system. The research work (industrial research and development) was carried out in 4 stages. This included: building a research team, developing new luminaire functionalities and a luminaire-to-luminaire communication system, designing these elements, then validating the adopted solutions, up to operational implementation tests of prototypes in a real operating environment and implementation of experimental and demonstration installations. The results of the research and development work carried out have been implemented into the company's own production and constitute an offer of new LUG products.

The project developed 46 prototypes, of which 26 industrial design applications were filed. The results of the research were disseminated in popular science articles in the Electrotechnical Review (2022). The project resulted in 4 European patent applications.
