F.U.L.G.I.S., the Italian foundation managing schools in the Genoa city, has equipped three schools (Deledda Language High School, Duchessa of Galliera, and Deledda International School) with PURELIGHT LUG FLOW devices for air decontamination. A total of 137 flow devices were installed in classrooms, gymnasiums, teachers' rooms, and administrative areas.
The decision to install flow devices in school space was influenced, among others, by the report of the Italian National Institute of Health [1], which confirms the effectiveness of UV-C germicidal lamps. These lamps prevent the spread of infections both through contact with contaminated materials and surfaces and through airborne transmission of infectious agents.
The report also references the latest laboratory studies on the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which showed that UV-C radiation with a wavelength of 254 nm can effectively inactivate the virus responsible for the COVID-19 pandemic.
The document also contained information based on research work conducted on SARS-CoV-2 transmission, which indicated that the virus is transmitted to a much greater extent through air than through surfaces. In addition, studies have also confirmed significantly higher infection rates indoors than outdoors, where those rates are negligible.
Antonio Oppicelli, President of the F.U.L.G.I.S. Foundation, emphasized that the installation of air sanitation devices was not dictated by top-down regulations, but mainly by the awareness of the benefits of using UV-C devices that will protect employees and students against pathogens, as well as against the risks associated with asthma and pollen allergies, which are eliminated with comparable effectiveness.
"We strive to ensure the highest possible level of safety in our facilities. Our actions are closely linked to measures that protect our children and employees against infection, as well as against the risks associated with allergies and asthma. This was not an investment we were required to make, but we believe it was crucial for the safety of those who spend many hours working hard in our schools."
Antonio Oppicelli, President of the F.U.L.G.I.S. Foundation.
Susanna Fadda, Director of the F.U.L.G.I.S. Foundation, also noted that the installed devices will help ensure the highest level of safety not only during the pandemic, but also in the post-pandemic era.
"We realised that in order to counter the health crisis, we could do more besides following the rules imposed by the Ministry of Health. This is an investment that will also serve us in post-covid times. We have found the installation of air decontamination devices in classrooms and common areas to be a good practice, which will ensure the highest possible level of safety for our students and teachers. We also wanted to provide a sense of safety to the parents who send their children to our schools. By using additional protective measures, our schools definitely minimise the factors that can negatively affect the health of the people who spend time in them."

We are extremely pleased that thanks to the installation of devices from the PURELIGHT LUG family we have raised the safety standards of educational institutions, ensuring protection of students and employees also in post-pandemic times.
